Structural plywood is a strong and durable building material widely used in furniture manufacturing, building structures, and interior decoration. However, without proper daily care, its lifespan and performance may be affected. This article explains how to maintain structural plywood daily to ensure its long-term stability and aesthetic appearance.
Keep it dry and avoid moisture
Structural plywood is primarily composed of wood fiber and adhesives, making it sensitive to humidity. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause plywood to swell, deform, and even mold. During daily use, avoid placing it near water or in areas of high humidity. If it gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area. Avoid using electric heaters to force drying, as this may damage the adhesive layer.
Clean regularly to avoid chemical corrosion
For daily cleaning, it is recommended to gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh cleaning tools (such as steel wool) to avoid scratching the surface coating. If the surface is stained, wipe it with a diluted neutral detergent, then immediately wipe it with clean water and dry it. Never use strong acids, strong bases, or solvent-based cleaners, as these chemicals may damage the plywood's bond structure, causing delamination or deterioration.
Avoid heavy pressure and damage from sharp objects.
Although structural plywood has a high load-bearing capacity, prolonged concentrated pressure or impacts from sharp objects may still cause dents or cracks on the surface. For furniture or flooring applications, it is recommended to use tablecloths, carpets, or protective mats to reduce direct wear. When moving heavy objects, lift them off the surface rather than dragging them to prevent scratches and bumps.
Regular Inspection and Maintenance
Structural plywood used for a long period of time should be regularly inspected for cracking, warping, or separation of the glue lines. Minor defects can be repaired promptly with wood glue and pressure-fixed until completely dry. For plywood exposed outdoors, it is recommended to periodically apply waterproof coating or wood wax oil to enhance its aging resistance.
Through scientific daily care, structural plywood can not only maintain its good appearance, but also extend its service life and ensure its stability and safety in various applications.
